Paint Shop Pro Silhouette Effect Tutorial
Are you new to Paint Shop Pro? Do you want to expand your knowledge with the program? If so, you've come to the right place! MisterUnscripted.com offers tutorials for Paint Shop Pro of many different styles. Welcome to the Silhouette Effect Tutorial. This tutorial will teach you how to create a silhouette image by using Paint Shop Pro. In just eight, easy steps; you can become a professional! This tutorial is very thorough, and if you can't follow, or need help, you can always ask through e-mail; help@misterunscripted.com. Enjoy!

Step 1
First off, open the image you wish to change into a silhouette image. If you don't have the image saved, copy & paste the image into Paint Shop Pro. The image I have chosen is one that will create a very defined silhouette, because of the white background; which is a good choice of background for ease during the creation process.

Step 2
Next, choose the Magic Wand tool, commonly found on the left side of the screen, as a sub-tool under the Selection tool.

Step 3
Now, you can start clicking around on the outside of the main focus of the image [in my case, the boy is the main focus; you may have a girl, an adult, or maybe even just an object]. There may be a lot of selection needed, so be sure to set the mode selection of the Magic Wand to Add [Shift]; this way, you can select multiple sections of the image.

Step 4
Now, you can actually select the around the image! Click around the main focus of the image; for maximum, and proper results.

Step 5
You should now have your image selected, and it should look like the image above. If you have that, then next you need to Invert the selection, so that you can have the person, or object selected, rather than the rest of the image. Under the Selections tab, on the main menu bar, click Invert.
The inverted selection should now be around your person, or object.

Step 6
Next, create a new Raster Layer to cover your image.
If you wish to have the the correct type of Raster Layer as the example; the settings below are needed.
After you have created the layer; on the right side of the screen, under the Layer tab, you should now have Background, and Raster 1.

Step 7
Finally, choose the Paint Bucket, and fill your person, or object with your desired colour; black, red, yellow, blue, or any other colour you would like!

Extra; Step 8
If you would like to add some extra spunk, a recommendation from MisterUnscripted.com is to add a Drop Shadow to your finished product; give it a realistic look! All you have to do is choose the Drop Shadow effect. To choose this effect, select the Effects tab, on the main menu bar, and under this tab, select 3D Effects. Another tab will open, and under this new tab, choose Drop Shadow.
You do not have to have the same settings as this, but if you wish to have the same style Drop Shadow as the example, then the settings below are needed.
When the Drop Shadow has been added, your image will look as though it is really being shadowed by oncoming light.
